And when those days are over some things will not seem new

My head still facing downward, my hands reaching out to you

With this new spark of certainty at what I cannot change

I’ve been this way forever, only now it don’t seem strange

And if there is no remedy, there’s surely no prevention

I’m feeling the same force but at least a bit less tension

And now your work is finished here but mine is just begun

Another lesson passed on from son to son

I look at all this wonder and I know the reason why

You wash me when my hands are dirty, give me water when I’m dry

And so I will return to you whenever I am able

I’ve learned not to be surprised by who’s welcome at your table

And if there is no remedy, there’s surely no prevention

I’m called to be here with you no matter your intention

And now their work is finished here but ours is just begun

Another lesson passed on from sun to sun

And if you might ever need me, I’ll be here at your right side

You talk about your loss but know that nothing really died

I know that it was you that tried to tell me of the cost

And that was how I found out I was never really lost

And if there is no remedy there’s surely no prevention

It came on rather suddenly – oh, did I forget to mention

That now my work is finished here but yours has just begun

Another lesson passed on from son to son

L is for: Like

Alive and thinking, Dave was as well. Like Knowing what he know, he listened and spoke, Lit new fires. He had been torn apart, for reasons. Like Knowing he needs. Why couldn’t he say? Chorus: you did.
