Dave is only part of the story

Dave lived in the 16th 18th 20th 21st and 22nd centuries

Dave was born in a shack just like our shack

Dave woke up muttering confused and uncertain

Dave should have been before but now it’s too late

Dave sat across the table from you when you met him for dinner after the breakup

Dave is back from the war having seen good friends die

Dave’s pronouns are they/them

Dave signed a million-dollar deal but was back at his day job within months

Dave never rode in the back of a limousine on New Year's Eve or any other time

Dave remembers meeting you in the bowling alley though you don’t do you

Dave has a young cousin whose name is Dave

Dave was named after his grandfather Jacob

Dave isn’t me or you well maybe you

Dave remembers Christmas

Dave enjoyed living in the castle apartment in Pittsburgh but is glad he came out west

Dave asks on the way back from wherever you’re going can you drop him in Albuquerque

Dave is a fictional character

Dave wishes you didn’t think he knows

Dave is that Dave no not that one that one

Dave wrote in his last poem about how he wrote in his last poem

Dave was probably there but doesn’t remember

Dave only knows what he’d be without you

Dave will see you in the morning at that place

Dave lived happily ever after for the most part
